WBOC 2024: Competition Day #1

8th of August 2024. Shortly after 8.00 a.m., the first shots rang out on the shooting range at Torstedvej, the site of the Ulfborg Skyttecenter.
Before the first shot, the weapons were meticulously inspected. Then it was off to shooting practice to adjust the small-caliber rifles for the competition. Almost every team had their control telescope with them so that they could evaluate every shot. This so-called target practice is shot at paper targets.
From 10.30 a.m., the point orientation run started, with the athletes setting off at one-minute intervals along the course marked with colorful fluttering ribbons. The aim of this discipline is to mark the points of 10 locations on the specified route as accurately as possible on an unmarked map.

After a good three kilometers, the map change station was reached, then the classic competition continued through the rather challenging terrain. The aim here is to find the checkpoints in the terrain as quickly as possible in a predetermined order on a route of your own choosing and to register there electronically as proof that you have found them. This is followed by prone shooting, a short running round, standing shooting and the run to the finish. The terrain for the classic competition was heavily intersected, like a dune terrain with many smaller heights and very different, energy-sapping vegetation. Not all participants have reached the finish. Even one checkpoint not found leads to exclusion from the ranking. The area around the Skyttecenter had a lot to offer …
