Opening ceremony of the 19th WBOC

Festive moments in Holstebro, Danmark

The 19th World Championships in biathlon orienteering were opened with a festive ceremony.
The day was already well filled with training sessions and shooting practice at the Ulfborg Skyttecenter competition area before the actual opening.


Then, at 7 p.m., the first bars of the respective national anthems sounded as the teams marched onto Holstebro’s market square. Competition Leader Carsten Helligsø welcomed the teams. The town of 37,000 inhabitants is located in the Midtjylland region and is the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name.
Mayor Hans Østerby warmly welcomed all the athletes and expressed his delight that Holstebro was hosting the WBOC.
Colonel Susanne Lund, Chairman of the Danish Military Sports Association, wished everyone tough but fair competition and declared the 19th WBOC 2024 open.
